State PKR Ready For Possible Legal Action

KUCHING: The State Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is ready to face a possible legal suit against the party filed by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

HDC had announced on Friday that it might take legal action against two opposition parties for allegedly distorting facts in the Auditor-General’s Report 2016.

“I fully welcome this novel initiative by the HDC chairman, as the trial will provide full opportunity for all parties to delve deeply into the facts of the matter and examine in full the details of the unsatisfactory findings of the AG in the report,” state PKR chairman Baru Bian told reporters yesterday.

“We may be presented with the chance for better and further particulars of each instance of unsatisfactory findings.”

According to Baru, Miri member of Parliament Dr Michael Teo and PKR Women’s national deputy chief Voon Shiak Ni had made numerous visits to the flats in Miri mentioned in the report.

“The flats are in bad condition and some parts are even cracking and chipping off. There are real problems on the ground and the HDC chairman should direct his energy towards rectifying these and improving oversights rather than threatening the opposition with legal action,” added Baru.

Voon also said she welcomed any possible legal action against the party.

“We are getting to the root of this problem, it is because according to the Auditor-General’s report, full payment has been made,” she said.

“Why is full payment released when work is not properly done, and in certain parts it was not completely done at all. That is the issue here.”

HDC chairman Datuk Dr Abang Abdul Rauf Abang Zen had said he would submit a private motion during a board of directors meeting next month to sue leaders from two opposition parties.
